Jay Therrell

Conference Superintendent

Jay Therrell serves Jesus as conference superintendent of the Florida Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church. Before joining the Florida Conference of the GMC, he was the global president of the Wesleyan Covenant Association and before that, he served as president of the WCA-Florida Regional Chapter. He has also served as the North East District Superintendent of the Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church. Before that, he was senior pastor of Cape Coral First Methodist Church for eight years. He has also served as the associate pastor at both First United Methodist Churches of Ormond Beach and Kissimmee.  At Ormond Beach, he was appointed to plant a second campus for the church. During his time at Kissimmee, he led the church’s homeless ministry including its Sunday evening service and feeding ministry.

Before becoming a pastor, Jay practiced estate planning and tax law for a large law firm in the Orlando area. He is still a member of the Florida Bar. He has also served as a congressional aide in the 105th Congress. His undergraduate degrees are in political science and accounting from Presbyterian College. His law degree is from the University of Florida. He received his master of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. Jay is also a Hansard Scholar having studied British politics and public policy at the London School of Economics while serving as an aide to a member of the British House of Commons.
Jay was appointed a guest chaplain to the U.S. House of Representatives by former Congressman Connie Mack. He was one of the original three drafters of the Global Methodist Church’s Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline and he chaired the team that designed the GMC’s retirement system. During his time in Cape Coral, Jay helped to found and served on the Board of Directors for the Samaritan Health and Wellness Center, a Christian primary care and behavioral health clinic for the uninsured and underinsured. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian College Alumni Association and was student body president of the Florida-Dunnam Campus of Asbury Seminary.
Jay is married to Kendra, a senior partner in a statewide law firm with offices in Jacksonville. Together they have one son. In his spare time, Jay likes to travel, cook, and be an avid fan of all things Star Wars, the University of Florida (Go Gators), and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
