The Florida Conference’s Petersen Ministry Training Fund was established in 2026 through the donation of Calvary Methodist Church in Tallahassee in memory of their late pastor, Bill Petersen. Additional funds may come from members of the Florida Conference and the denomination. The fund is designed to help men and women seeking to become pastors by assisting them in paying for either seminary or the GMC Course of Study. The grant is awarded as a loan forgivable 20% a year for each year the person serves under appointment as a pastor in the Florida Conference. After five years of service (part-time or full-time), the loan is completely forgiven.
Petersen Ministry Training Fund grants will be awarded twice a year in the late spring and early fall. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Petersen Ministry Training Fund Committee. Each year, the Committee shall evaluate the applications received and determine the amount of money to be awarded. The Scholarship Committee may choose to award no scholarship in any given year.
All scholarship money will be sent to the school, not to the scholarship recipient. It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to advise the Conference office of the name and
address of the financial aid or other office where a check should be sent.
Each applicant member desiring to be considered for a scholarship shall submit their application to Pam Levesque, Senior Assistant to the Cabinet, Pam Levesque (plevesque@floridagmc.org) by 5pm on October 31st, 2026.
The Tent Makers Scholarship application is now open for the Fall Semester, and the link to the application is below. To apply, you must submit an application by Saturday, October 31, 2026 to the Rev. Nako Kellum, Conference Administrator, at nkellum@floridagmc.org. Along with the application, you must include a signed letter from your pastor recommending you for the scholarship. Applicants do not need to be a member of the Florida GMC, but they must actively attend a Florida Global Methodist Church.
Scholarships will be awarded twice a year in the late spring and early fall. At present, five scholarships will be awarded for half of a student’s tuition, up to $2,500.00. Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the trade school, not the recipient.
Later this year, we will be encouraging local churches to take a special offering to help ensure the Tent Makers Scholarship will last well into the future and help our Florida GMC family for decades to come.
